One of the oddest treehoppers, Sphongophorus (Cladonota) ballista, from Panama, a photo by Arthur Anker on Flickr.
In the Tropical Entomology seminar that my colleague Loren Rivera and I are facilitating, one of the presentations concluded by asking what we can do as entomologists to increase awareness about arthropods. As a class, we decided to create a facebook game, involving sharing insects! The text is as follows:
The idea is to occupy Facebook with “bugsies” instead of selfies, videos, movies, bitstrips and useless/not true personality/character tests. Whoever likes this post will receive a letter and has to post an insect whose name starts with that letter and this text.
This is a Membracid (Sphongophorus (Cladonota) ballista – from Panama!). Insects are cool guys!!
Just when I think I’ve found my favorite insect, I learn about a whole new family. #entomologistprobs
